Mini Sumo Robot
Two robots push to shove each other out of a ring — sensors keep them in and aimed at the foe.
Start building ↓The build
Build low & strong
Make a low, heavy pusher with grippy wheels.
Add edge sensors
Sense the ring border to avoid falling out.
Add seek sensor
Detect the opponent ahead.
Program tactics
Search, charge, and back off from the edge.
Edge sensors keep the bot inside the ring while a forward sensor aims it at the opponent, then high-torque motors do the pushing.
A closer look
It combines safety reflexes (edge avoidance) with goal-seeking (find and push), a basic example of layered robot behaviour.
Variables to test
- 1 Lower the centre of gravity — harder to flip?
- 2 Add a wedge front — better pushing?

Obstacle-Avoiding Robot
An Arduino car reads distance with ultrasonic sound and steers itself away from walls.
Line-Following Robot
Infrared sensors keep a small robot glued to a black track as it races a loop.
Bristlebot
A toothbrush head, a coin motor and a battery make a buzzing bug that scurries across the table.
